Op een vrije kavel in Nesselande, een nieuwbouwgebied vlak buiten Rotterdam willen de opdrachtgevers een degelijk, representatief stenen huis laten bouwen met een grote keuken. De kavel is geheel omgeven door verschillende kanalen en sloten.
Het ontwerp refereert met zijn kubistische vormentaal en terughoudende materialisatie aan klassiek moderne villa's uit de jaren 20. Het doorbroken metselwerk filtert het zonlicht en beschermd het private karakter van de woning. Het herinnert op abstracte manier aan de culturele achtergrond van de opdrachtgevers. Door de ruimtelijke opzet en de split-level doorsnede hebben alle ruimtes hun eigen karakter en proportie. Bijzondere aandacht is besteed aan de patio die een centrale positie inneemt in het plan.

On a wide plot surrounded by canals in the new city extension of Rotterdam, Nesselande, the clients want to build a representative, solid and comfortable house with a large kitchen. The formal language of the design with its simple, understated materialisation and its cubistic shapes refers to classical modern villas from the twenties. The net-like masonry filters sunlight while preserving the client’s privacy. It reflects the cultural background of the clients in an abstract way. Due to the spatial configuration and the split-level section all spaces have their own character and proportion. Special attention has been paid to the courtyard with its central position in the centre of the design.
